ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Fine-grained, polycrystalline, basalt-type glass- ceramic fibers. having a crystal content of at least 35% and particular application as fiber reinforcement in concrete structures, are disclosed. A method of production comprises treating a vitreous fiber in the temperature range of 900 to 1250°C. for a time not exceeding ten minutes, and preferably less than one minute.
