A blast spray device for reducing secondary dust explosion risk during blasting in high-sulphide mines comprises a solenoid operated valve, a water spray nozzle located at a short distance from the blast site and connected to the solenoid operated valve via a suitable length of hose, a programmable timer electrically connected to the solenoid operated valve for operating the solenoid valve during a preset time interval, and a loop of blasting wire interconnecting the timer and the main blast line through a short length of blasting cord to trigger the timer and ensure that the water spray is initiated before the blast.
