The apparatus for processing blood components comprises a centrifuge rotor (1) configured to be rotated about an axis of rotation, the rotor (1) comprising a portion (3) for receiving a separation chamber (4) in which blood components are centrifugally separated; and a separation chamber (4) connected by a tubing (21) to at least one collection container (33). The apparatus is characterized in that it comprises a filter (31) connected to the tubing (21); a pump (80) for pumping at least one of the centrifugally separated blood components from the separation chamber (4) through the filter (31) into the at least one collection container (33); a pressure sensor (70) for sensing pressure of blood components pumped by the pump (80); and a controller (68) configured to stop the pump (80) in response to an increase of pressure sensed by the pressure sensor (70) caused by viscous blood components packing in the filter (31).
