18-MT-0080 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE BRUSHLESS EXCITER WITH ZERO-GRAVITY RECTIFIER ASSEMBLY A brushless exciter for a dynamoelectric machine includes a rectifier assembly disposed in a cylindrical cavity on an axis of the shaft of the dynamoelectric machine. The rectifier assembly is made up of a stack of generally circular hest-sink diaca with a cylindrical diode sandwiched on the axis between adjcent pairs of the heat-sink diacs. A predetermined value of contact force is applied to the diodes through the atack of heat-sink diaca using a plurality of tensioning bolts passing through the stack and tensioned using Belleville springs. All electrical connections to the diodes are made through tha heat-sink diaca using conductor bars which pass in aligned slots in the edges of the heat-sink diacs, each asking contact with only a desired single one of the heat-sink diaca. A plurality of air flow openings in the heat-sink diaca both permit the passage Df ~ir thoreth~ou~h ~nd al~o flo~ coollng ~ir onto the body of the dlodes. The flow of cooling alr i8 enhanced by provldlng exit openlngs for the co~llng alr which ~re loc~ted ~t greater dlnaetera than the dlameter of the cyllndrlcal c~vity contalnirg the rectifler ssaembly. Thia permit~ centrl~ugal ~orce to add to the alr flow.
