A building evacuation system in which at least one vertical evacuation chute is provided for each floor of a building to be evacuated. A plurality of collapsible buckets are stored on each floor and, after loading, are slid along horizontal rails to the vertical chute where they engage a plurality of vertical guide tracks. The guide tracks are provided with tapered brake pads so as to provide progressively increasing braking force on the falling buckets. A sloping slide is provided adjacent a lower open end of the chute to slidably transfer the bucket and evacuee to the ground.

L'invention concerne un système d'évacuation d'un bâtiment dans lequel au moins une rampe d'évacuation verticale équipe chaque étage d'un bâtiment à évacuer. Plusieurs baquets escamotables entreposés sur chaque étage sont, après chargement, glissés le long de rails horizontaux vers la rampe d'évacuation verticale où ils entrent en prise avec plusieurs pistes de guidage verticaux. Les pistes de guidage sont munies de coussins de freinage coniques de façon à appliquer sur les baquets descendants une force de freinage qui augmente progressivement. Une glissière inclinée jouxte une extrémité ouverte inférieure de la rampe pour transférer par coulissement le baquet et la personne évacuée vers le sol.
