ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A bushing assembly employing an orifice plate having a perforated drawing area with a planar undersurface against which bulk gas flow is directed for cooling and fiber attenuation purposes. The bushing assembly is removably secured beneath a flow block having a flow passage and comprises a block of refrac- tory material having a flow chamber extending therethrough in alignment with the flow passage. The flow chamber is lined with a platinum foil lining and the orifice plate is joined to the lining and extends over the lower end of the chamber. The orifice plate has an unperforated collection area at the sides of the perforated drawing area, and a deflector plate is secured to the platinum foil lining in spaced relation to the orifice plate between the upper and lower surfaces of the refractory block, the plate being disposed so as to intercept molten glass flowing into the upper end of the chamber in the block and to deflect such fluid towards the collection area formed by the orifice plate.
