ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A capacitor composed of a consolidated winding or consolidated stack of plastic plies layered to one another and provided with metal coating layers has an incision at a narrow side to form projections. The metal coatings on the individual plastic plies are alternately interrupted by insulating strips from ply to ply and are alternately connected as anti-polar coatings by metal layers situated on the surfaces formed by the projections. The plastic plies have the metal layers on both sides, over which extremely thin plastic layers are applied. A method for manufacturing capacitors provides that the plastic plies be provided with the metal-free insulating strips and that they thereby or subsequently be wound onto a drum, whereupon the incisions are produced and the individual stacks are separated either before or subsequent thereto.
