ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A device for applying and/or taking up a liquid, includes a number of thin plates and/or films arranged in layers one above the other with slot-like interstices between the individual plates and/or films of a size depending on the particular plate and/or film materials, and the liquid to be applied or taken up. The particular liquid is transported through the slot-like interstices by capillary effect, enabling relatively large amounts of liquid, optionally including small solid constituents, to be transported. The device is freely movable and portable, and serves as a consumer article or appliance for the application or removal of liquid to or from surfaces by a wiping movement, for which purpose at least one side face of the plate and/or film assembly is designed as a liquid transfer and/or uptake surface, and the remaining parts of the plate and/or film assembly form a liquid reservoir.
