CARBOXYLATED PHENYLENE ETHER RESINS ABSTRACT Melt-processing a mixture of a polyphenylene ether (PPE) and an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic compound, in the absence of an added free radical initiator such as a peroxide, serves to introduce carboxyl functionality into the PPE resin. The resulting carboxylated PPE resins are useful in forming alloys with more polar resins such as polyamides.
