ABSTRACT CARPET INSTALLATION DEVICE The present invention comprises a carpet installation device comprising a driven member having a carpet-gripping head at one end thereof, slideably engaged within a housing, said driven member being actuated by a spring adapted to impart an impact force to said driven member. In a further aspect of the invention, a force transfer member is provided, which may comprise a piston, interposed between the spring and the driven member and adapted to impact against the driven means when actuated by the spring means. In preferred embodiments, the spring may be cocked either by the use of air pressure acting against the piston means to drive the piston towards rearwardly, or alternatively by the use of a selectively engageable electric motor. The spring may comprise either a conventional steel coil spring or a gas spring.
