ABSTRACT Catalysts comprising bismuth and vanadium compone- ents are highly active and stable, especially in the presence of water vapor, for oxidizing hydrogen sulfide to sulfur or SO2. Such catalysts have been found to be especially active for the conversion of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur by reaction with oxygen or SO2.
