Abstract In catalysts for use in hot exhaust gases with a surface-roughened metal bearing structure and a catalytically active coating applied thereto, there is the problem that the catalytically active coating can fall off the metal bearing structure. It is therefore the aim of the invention to improve the adhesion of the catalytically active substance to the bearing structure. To this end, according to the invention, the metal bearing structure is roughened by spark erosion. Then the catalytically active coating can be keyed to the metal bearing structure roughened by spark erosion with the aid of a cross linking agent. The invention is applicable to catal- ytically coated plate catalyst systems.
