A process for preparing a carboxylic acid of formula R1CO2H, wherein R1 is optionally substituted aryl, optionally substituted heteroaryl or alkenyl optionally substituted by aryl; the process comprising reacting an alcohol of formula R1CH2OH or an aldehyde of formula R1CHO with oxygen in the presence of a base, a catalytic amount of a copper salt and a suitable ligand; optionally in the presence of an additive.

Procédé permettant de préparer un acide carboxylique de formule R?1¿CO¿2?H, dans laquelle R?1¿ est aryle éventuellement substitué, hétéro-aryle éventuellement substitué ou alcényle éventuellement substitué par aryle. Selon le procédé, on fait réagir un alcool de formule R?1¿CO¿2?OH ou un aldéhyde de formule R?1¿CHO avec l'oxygène en présence d'une base, d'une quantité catalytique d'un sel de cuivre et d'un ligand approprié, et éventuellement en présence d'un additif.
