The coating comprises particles of metal compound of refractive index greater than 2 distributed in a binding polymer and provides the microbeads with a coloured external surface. The invention extends to a synthetic polymeric material incorporating such microbeads, to a pigment for synthetic polymeric material comprising such microbeads, and to microbeads for retroreflective paint.
