A coating composition that is capable of absorbing UV or UV and visible light is disclosed. The coating composition includes a carrier and a pigment dispersed in the carrier. The pigment includes nanoparticles of a UV light absorber such that the coating composition is capable of absorbing UV light up to 360nm or nanoparticles of a UV and visible light absorber such that the coating composition is capable of absorbing UV and visible light up to 550nm, and the absorber includes an inorganic material.
