ABSTRACT A process for providing an abrasion resistant coating on the surface of a glass container by treating the container with a solution containing 0.5% to 10% by weight of phosphoric acid in an aqueous diluent, the temperature of the surface of the container being at least 300°C, and thereafter applying a lubricious cold-end coating to the surface of the container.
