The invention relates to coatings of polyarylene sulfides, characterized in that a polyarylene sulfide having a melt viscosity nm of 20 to 1000 Pa.s and a weight average relative molecular weight Mw (rel) of 25,000 to 500,000 is used, of which the melt viscosity nm and the weight average relative molecular weight Mw bear the following relation to one another: lg nm = 3.48xlgMw(rel) - 14.250.1. The coatings are useful as coatings for conductor materials, for example in cables, lines, coil windings and motors.
