A method of forming a tap into an intermediate point on a continuous coaxial cable (1000), the cable having an inner conductor (1010), a dielectric (1020) surrounding the inner conductor, and an outer conductor (1002) surrounding the dielectric, the method comprising the steps of: forming an opening in the outer conductor of the coaxial cable; forming a cavity in the dielectric under the opening; mounting a tap insert (20) to the coaxial cable, the tap insert comprising a tap insert enclosure, a coupler assembly supported by the tap insert enclosure (21), the coupler assembly having at least one of the following characteristics: it can extract signals from the center conductor, it can insert signals into the center conductor, it can extract power from the center conductor, and it can insert power into the center conductor, and means for mounting the tap insert to a coaxial cable tap housing; and locating the coupler assembly in the cavity. A tap assembly, suitable for use in the method, the tap assembly comprising a tap housing (100) and a tap insert. The tap housing comprising: a first end portion; a second end portion; an intermediate portion having a recess (14); means for fixing the housing around an intermediate point on a continuous coaxial cable; an alignment element (512) having a predetermined spatial relationship with the recess; and means for mounting a tap insert to the recess. The tap insert including a signal coupler assembly mounted on a tap baseplate; and means for providing RF and/or power input and/or output.
Procédé de création d'une prise en un point intermédiaire sur un câble coaxial continu (1000), ce câble possédant un conducteur intérieur (1010), un diélectrique (1020) entourant le conducteur intérieur et un conducteur extérieur (1002) entourant le diélectrique. Ce procédé consiste à pratiquer une ouverture dans le conducteur extérieur du câble coaxial; à créer une cavité dans le diélectrique sous l'ouverture; à monter un élément d'insertion de prise (20) sur le câble coaxial, cet élément étant composé d'un boîtier et d'un ensemble de couplage supporté par le boîtier (21) et possédant au moins une des caractéristiques suivantes: capacité d'extraction de signaux depuis le conducteur central, d'introduction de signaux dans le conducteur central, d'extraction de courant depuis le conducteur central et d'introduction de courant dans le conducteur central; ledit élément d'insertion de prise possédant également de moyens servant à le monter au boîtier de prise du câble coaxial. Ce procédé consiste ensuite à placer l'ensemble de couplage dans la cavité. Ensemble prise servant à mettre en application ce procédé et comprenant un boîtier de prise (100) et un élément d'insertion de prise. Le boîtier de prise comprend une première partie d'extrémité, une deuxième partie d'extrémité, une partie intermédiaire pourvue d'un évidement (14), des moyens servant à fixer ce boîtier autour d'un point intermédiaire sur un câble coaxial continu, un élément d'alignement (512) possédant un rapport spatial prédéterminé avec l'évidement et des moyens servant à monter l'élément d'insertion dans l'évidement. Cet élément d'insertion comprend un ensemble de couplage de signaux monté sur un socle de prise et des moyens servant à produire une entrée et une sortie de courant ou de haute fréquence.
