A draft gear assembly (10) which is mountable within a yoke (20) of the railway vehicle for cushioning buff and draft dynamic impact forces encountered during make-up and operation of a railway vehicle includes a compressible spring (102) positioned intermediate the front coupler follower (60) and the rear follower (50) in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the yoke. A pair of axially aligned compressible springs (102a, 102b) may be also provided being either separated by a center plate (200) or by a wall (212) of the yoke.
