A cathode assembly (2) for use in a Hall-Heroult electrolytic cell, the assembly including a cathode block (4) which receives two primary cathode collector bar (12) and one secondary cathode collector bar (14) disposed therebetween. The primary collector bars (12) each have an electrical interface with the cathode block (4) which is sized to be equal to or greater than an electrical interface between the secondary collector bar (14) and the cathode block (4). The primary collector bars (12) are electrically connected to the cathode block only along an interior portion of the cathode block and the secondary collector bar (14) is fully connected to the cathode block. This arrangement improves current distribution through the cathode assembly by minimizing the amount of current passing through the ends of the cathode block.

La présente invention concerne un ensemble cathode (2) destiné à une cuve d'électrolyse pour le procédé Hall-Héroult. Cet ensemble comporte un bloc de cathode (4) qui reçoit deux barres de cathode collectrices primaires (12) et une barre de cathode collectrice secondaire (14) placée entre les deux autres. Chacune des barres collectrices primaires (12) dispose avec le bloc de cathode (4) d'une interface électrique au moins égale à l'interface électrique entre la barre collectrice secondaire (14) et le bloc de cathode (4).
