An ultra-lightweight, high strength ceramic proppant made from mixture of naturally occurring clays, preferably porcelain clay, kaolin and/or flint-clay, earthenware clay or other naturally occurring clays having an alumina content between about 5.5% and about 35%. The proppant has an apparent specific gravity from about 2.10 to about 2.55 g/cc, and a bulk density of from about 1.30 to about 1.50 g/cc. This ultra- lightweight proppant is useful in hydraulic fracturing of oil and gas wells, and has greater conductivity than sand at pressures up to 8,000 psi as measured by Stim-Lab after 50 hours and 275° F on Ohio Sandstone, in the presence of deoxygenated aqueous 2% solution of KCI.

L'invention porte sur un agent de soutènement céramique de haute résistance et de poids ultraléger réalisé en un mélange d'argiles naturelles, de préférence de l'argile à porcelaine, du kaolin et/ou de l'argile à silex, de l'argile de poterie ou d'autres argiles naturelles ayant une teneur en alumine entre environ 5,5 % et environ 35 %. L'amorceur a une densité apparente d'environ 2,10 à environ à 2,55 g/cm3 et une densité de masse d'environ 1,30 à environ 1,50 g/cm3. Cet amorceur de poids ultraléger est utile pour la fracture hydraulique de puits de pétrole et de gaz, et a une conductivité supérieure à celle du sable à des pressions atteignant jusqu' à 8000 livres/pouce carré, mesurée par Stim-Lab après 50 heures et à 275°F sur du grès de l'Ohio, en présence d'une solution aqueuse désoxygénée à 2 % de KCI.
