The present invention is directed to a composition for gene transfer which composition contains a quaternary ammonium salt represented by formula (1): (see formula 1) wherein A represents (see formula 2) or (see formula 3) (wherein each of R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5, which are identical to or different from one another, represents a C9 - C17 aliphatic group); X1 represents a halogen atom; and n is an integer from 1 to 10 inclusive; and a method for introducing a gene into a cell by use of the composition. The composition enables effective delivery and expression of a gene which previously could not be effectively expressed in cells due to the low ratio at which the gene is delivered into cells. Therefore, the composition is advantageously used as a gene transfer reagent or a pharmaceutical.

Cette invention se rapporte à une composition permettant l'introduction d'un gène dans une cellule, ladite composition contenant un sel d'ammonium quaternaire représenté par la formule générale (1), dans laquelle A représente le composé représenté par la formule (a) ou le composé représenté par la formule (b), (où R?1¿, R?2¿, R?3¿, R?4¿ et R?5¿ sont identiques ou différents et représentent chacun un groupe aliphatique C¿9-17?); X?1¿ est halogéno; et n est un entier compris entre 1 et 10. Du fait que cette composition permet d'introduire efficacement un gène à l'intérieur d'une cellule et de provoquer l'expression du gène, elle s'avère utile en tant que réactif destiné à l'introduction de gènes ou en tant que médicament.
