A composition for treating and/or cleaning surfaces comprises a nanoparticle component selected form the group consisting of metal oxyhydroxides, modified metal oxyhydroxides and mixtures thereof; a buffer/modifier component; optionally, an adjunct ingredient; and the balance of the composition being a polar solvent. The composition has a relationship of buffer/modifier and nanoparticle type, and pH that provides aesthetically pleasing, long lasting, and durable finish on the cleaning surfaces.
