A compression tool for interconnecting pipe ends by plastically deforming metal coupling sleeves thereon has two arcuate compression jaws that are displaceable relative to one another from an opened position (where they can be placed on the workpiece) to a closed compressed position, One of the compression jaws is designed as a rest to be engaged against the workpiece the other jaw being displaced and guided by the drive system in such a manner that during compression the jaws always move towards the center of the compression space.
