Condensation products of polyalkylene polyamines produced by a) the partial amidation of polyalkylene polyamines and b) the condensation of the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamine with at least difunctional cross-linking agents to form cross-linking polyalkylene polyamines having a viscosity of at least 100 mPas in 20% aqueous solution at 20°C, process for producing the condensation products of polyalkylene polyamines by partial amidation of polyalkylene amines with carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid esters, carboxylic acid anhydrides or carboxylic acid halogenides and cross-linking the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamines with at lease difunctional cross-linking agents, wherein to one part by weight of the partially amidated polyalkylene polyamines are added 0.001 to 10 parts by weight of a cross-linking agent, and the use of the condensation products thus obtained as dehydrating, flocculating and retention agents and as fixing agents in papermaking.
