A method for reducing the modulus of polymer silicone hydrogel compositions by employing monomeric polysiloxanes endcapped with trimethylsilyl to reduce the crosslinking density of the hydrogel. The synthesis consists of a single vessel acid catalyzed ring opening polymerization and may be employed to produce copolymers useful as hydrogel contact lens materials.

La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant de réduire le module de compositions hydrogel à base de polymère silicone par l'utilisation de polysiloxanes monomères coiffés aux extrémités par du triméthylsilyle, de façon à réduire la densité de réticulation de l'hydrogel. La synthèse consiste en une polymérisation à ouverture de cycle catalysée par un acide dans une seule cuve et elle peut être utilisée pour produire des copolymères qui conviennent comme matériaux pour lentille de contact hydrogel.
