A container (1) having a body and a rim (3) defining an opening for the container, the container being made of a material such as PET or PEN, is manufactured in a two-stage process. The first stage comprises injection moulding a preform (15) which has a rim (3) formed at its mouth and a continuous body-forming portion (32) extending across the preform from the inner periphery (19) of the rim, the rim having an outwardly-directed extent and including a downwardly-extending portion (21) spaced outwardly from the inner periphery and an outwardly-extending portion (5,6,29) located outwardly of the downwardly~extending portion. In the second stage the preform is placed in a moulding cavity (56) of a blow moulding apparatus (7) at an elevated temperature with the preform being located by means of the rim (3). The body- forming portion expands in the cavity to form the container side wall (20) and bottom wall (2). The upper region (18)of the side wall contacts the downwardly- extending portion (21) of the rim such as to form a box section (25). The side wall (20) has at its upper side region a step (23) above which the diameter of the cavity is substantially equal to or approaches the diameter of the downwardly-extending portion (21) of the rim. Below the step (23) the diameter is less than the diameter of the inner periphery of the rim and tapers therefrom inward downwardly to the bottom wall (2) at an acute angle, whereby the containers can internest.
L'invention concerne un contenant (1) présentant un corps et une bordure (3) définissant une ouverture pour ledit contenant. Ce dernier, constitué d'un matériau tel que du PET ou PEN, est fabriqué selon un procédé en deux étapes. La première étape consiste à mouler par injection une préforme (15) qui présente une bordure (3), formée au niveau de son ouverture, et une partie formant le corps (32) s'étendant à travers la préforme à partir de la périphérie interne (19) de la bordure, cette dernière comportant un prolongement dirigé vers l'extérieur et une partie (21) s'étendant vers le bas, placée à distance, vers l'extérieur, de la périphérie interne, ainsi qu'une partie (5,6,29) s'étendant vers l'extérieur, située à l'extérieur de la partie s'étendant vers le bas. La deuxième étape consiste à placer la préforme dans une cavité de moulage (56) d'un appareil de moulage par soufflage (7) à une température élevée, la préforme étant positionnée au moyen de la bordure (3). La partie formant le corps subit une expansion dans la cavité pour former la paroi latérale (20) et le fond (2) du contenant. La région supérieure (18) de la paroi latérale vient en contact avec la partie (21), s'étendant vers le bas, de la bordure de façon à former une section de boîte (25). La paroi latérale (20) présente, dans sa région latérale supérieure, un gradin (23) au-dessus duquel le diamètre de la cavité est sensiblement égal au diamètre de la partie (21), s'étendant vers le bas, de la bordure ou proche de ce dernier. En dessous du gradin (23), le diamètre est inférieur à celui de la périphérie interne de la bordure et diminue progressivement vers l'intérieur et vers le bas en direction du fond (2) en formant un angle aigu, ce qui permet d'emboîter les contenants les uns dans les autres.
