ABSTRACT CONTROL VALVE A control valve (2) has a plug closure member (3) for sealing off the open end of a conduit (17) and thereby inhibiting flow of a first fluid surrounding the plug closure member (3) upwardly through the conduit (17). The plug closure member (3) is connected to a hollow stem (5). A channel (18) for the flow of a second fluid extends through the hollow stem (5) and plug closure member(3). The plug closure member (3) and stem (5) are movable in a guide tube (7) toward and away from the open end of the conduit (17), with the plug closure member (3) seatable in the open end of the conduit(17). A check valve (22, 222) is disposed in the conduit (17) or the channel (18) to inhibit flow from the conduit (17) through the channel (18). An orifice plate (20) may be located in the channel (18).
