A coping jig for coping molding to a predetermined shape, comprising a base having a first surface area adapted to receive a cutting means and a section of molding and a second surface area to receive a template. There is at least one clamping means for releasably securing a work piece on the base and a template holding means adapted for the detachable attachment of a template thereto wherein the direction of movement of the cutting means guided by the template is transferred to the direction of movement of a cutting member of the cutting means, thereby cutting said work piece to conform to said predetermined shape. The coping jig is adapted for receiving a jig saw, a hole saw, and a router to cope 2 1/4 in., 31/4 in., and quarter round molding. The coping jig may be made of plastic by molding to be extremely lightweight and portable.
