A method is provided for improving skin condition through a system whose steps include applying to the skin separately on a plurality of days a first composition that incorporates a C2-C28 .alpha.- or .beta.-hydroxy carboxylic acid in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Once the skin has acclimated to any irritation induced by the first composition, a second composition is applied to the skin daily for a subsequent period of time. The second composition will also include hydroxy carboxylic acid but at a level at least 10 % higher than that employed in the first composition. Once the skin has acclimated to the second composition, subsequent progressive increases of the active hydroxy carboxylic acid can be applied over subsequent periods of time. Finally, a maintenance level composition is utilized with the highest level of hydroxy carboxylic acid in the progressive program to minimize potential irritation.
L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à améliorer l'état de la peau à l'aide d'un système dont les étapes consistent à appliquer sur la peau, séparément, en plusieurs jours, une première composition contenant un acide .alpha.- ou .beta.-hydroxycarboxylique C¿2?-C¿28? dans un excipient pharmaceutiquement acceptable. Une fois la peau acclimatée à une éventuelle irritation induite par la première composition, on applique ensuite sur la peau une seconde composition quotidiennement pendant une durée déterminée. La seconde composition comprend également de l'acide hydroxycarboxylique mais à un niveau d'au moins 10 % supérieur à celui utilisé dans la première composition. Une fois la peau acclimatée à la seconde composition, les augmentations progressives subséquentes de l'acide hydroxycarboxylique actif peuvent être appliquées pendant des périodes de temps ultérieures. Enfin, on utilise une composition d'entretien présentant le niveau le plus élevé d'acides hydroxycarboxyliques dans le programme progressif afin de réduire au minimum une irritation potentielle.
