Cross-linked copolymers possessing high thickening and suspending properties obtainable by polymerization of monomeric systems comprising a) 10-97% of at least one unsaturated carboxylic acid, b) 0-80% of at least one alkyl ester of an unsaturated acid, c) 0.5-80% of an associative monomer, d) 0-20% of an unsaturated amide, e) 0.2-20% of a suitable cross-linking agent and f) 0-20% of an unsaturated sulfonic acid; processes for their preparation, which comprise polymerization by precipitation, suspension and solution polymerizations or emulsion polymerization; latexes comprising up to 50% or more of said copolymers; said cross-linked copolymers and said latexes whenever prepared by the above polymerization processes; their use as thickening agents of aqueous, or substantially aqueous systems; and the new cross-linking agents.

Copolymères réticulés possédant d'excellentes propriétés d'épaississement et de suspension; ils peuvent être obtenus par polymérisation de systèmes monomères renfermant a) 10-97 % d'au moins un acide carboxylique insaturé; b) 0-80 % d'au moins un ester alkylique d'un acide insaturé; c) 0,5-80 % d'un monomère associatif; d) 0-20 % d'un amide insaturé; e) 0,2-20 % d'un réticulant approprié; f) 0-20 % d'un acide sulfonique insaturé. Méthodes pour les préparer, comprenant la polymérisation par précipitation, suspension et la polymérisation en solution ou la polymérisation en émulsion; latex renfermant jusqu'à 50 % ou plus de ces copolymères; lesdits copolymères réticulés et lesdits latex, lorsqu'ils sont préparés par les méthodes de polymérisation ci-dessus; leur emploi comme agents épaississants de systèmes aqueux ou essentiellement aqueux; les nouveaux réticulants.
