The method also includes using the unique patient identifier to retrieve medical information associated with the patient from a centralized information source that includes a patient record containing the medical information. After performing a medical procedure on the patient based on the retrieved medical information, the method includes updating the patient record in the centralized information source to reflect the performed medical procedure.
