Electrochemical battery comprising thin films including a positive electrode and its collector, and a strip of a host metal designed to constitute subsequently a negative electrode, as well as a conductive electrolyte of alkaline ions and a source of alkaline ions. The host metal strip has cavities whose quantity and arrangement enable it to absorb locally any lateral expansion of the host metal strip and thereby substantially prevent any cumulative change in the plane of the host metal strip when there is initial formation of an alloy in the strip between the host metal and an alkaline metal formed by the alkaline ions. Also described is a method of fabricating the said battery.
