To determine whether to deploy a candidate VM to a candidate host, taking into consideration resources available from the candidate host and resources required by the candidate VM, a sub-rating is calculated for each of several resources available from the candidate host, where the sub-rating for the resource corresponds to an amount of the resource that is free after the candidate VM is deployed to the candidate host. Thereafter, a rating is calculated from the calculated sub-ratings to characterize how well the candidate host can accommodate the candidate VM. The rating for the candidate host are presented to a selector that determines whether to deploy the candidate VM to the candidate host based on the rating thereof.

L'invention décrite permet de déterminer si une machine virtuelle candidate peut être déployée sur un hôte candidat. En prenant compte des ressources rendues disponibles par l'hôte candidat et des ressources requises par la machine virtuelle candidate, un sous-classement est établi pour chacune des différentes ressources disponibles à partir de l'hôte candidat, le sous-classement de la ressource correspondant à une quantité de la ressource qui est libre après que la machine virtuelle candidate ait été déployée sur l'hôte candidat. Un classement est ensuite calculé à partir des sous-classements établis pour caractériser la qualité d'hébergement de la machine virtuelle candidate par l'hôte candidat. Le classement de l'hôte candidat est présenté à un sélectionneur qui détermine si la machine virtuelle candidate peut être déployée sur l'hôte candidat compte tenu du classement de celui-ci.
