A surface gamma radiation survey apparatus, comprising at least two spaced apart gamma radiation detector means, each operable to produce output signals respective of the magnitude of gamma radiation proximate each the detectors; means for producing a position signal representative of the position of each thedetectors from a predetermined datum; means for sampling each the output signalsat predetermined timed intervals for producing sampled signals associated with each the detector output signals; means for storing each the sampled signals and associated position signals; display means for displaying a map of a survey area; and processor means for causing the display means to display at locations on the map crresponding to the position of an output signal from the datum an image representative of the magnitude of radiatio at the position.
