A digital waveform generator (10) reads out simulated .DELTA..SIGMA. ADC data (40) for a desired periodic analog waveform from a memory (38) and converts it, using a low-resolution high speed DAC (50), into a synthesized analog waveform (54). The .DELTA..SIGMA. digital waveform generator is preferably designed to take advantage of the natural evolution of device technologies. The memory is fabricated with older technologies, which tend to be slower but have a much higher integration. The DAC is implemented in more recent technologies, which are faster but have less integration. A speed up buffer (44) or buffers in intermediate speed intermediate integration technologies may be included to provide a bridge between the low speed memory and the low integration DAC. As the current technologies become more well developed, and thus more integrated, and new higher speed technologies take their place, the technologies for the various components will gradually change, but the architecture should remain viable and superior to the known digital generators.
L'invention concerne un générateur d'ondes numériques (10) recherchant dans une mémoire (38) des données de conversion .DELTA..SIGMA. analogique-numérique simulées (40) pour trouver l'onde analogique périodique voulue et la convertir en onde analogique synthétisée (54), au moyen d'un convertisseur numérique-analogique basse résolution et grande vitesse (50). Ce générateur d'ondes numériques .DELTA..SIGMA. est conçu de préférence pour tirer parti de l'évolution naturelle de la technologie des dispositifs. La mémoire relève de techniques plus anciennes, ce qui la rend plus lente et lui donne aussi une intégration nettement supérieure. Le convertisseur numérique-analogique relève de techniques plus récentes, plus rapides mais aussi plus faibles en matière d'intégration. Un ou plusieurs tampons d'accélération (44) relevant de techniques à vitesse et intégration intermédiaires peuvent être insérés en tant que pont entre la mémoire à faible vitesse et le convertisseur numérique-analogique à faible intégration. A mesure que les techniques actuelles s'affinent, et donc que l'intégration s'améliore mais aussi que naissent des techniques nouvelles à vitesse supérieure, la technologie des différents composants évoluera progressivement, sans pour autant amoindrir en principe la viabilité du générateur et sa supériorité par rapport aux générateurs numériques connus.
