Disclosed is a system for use in a continuous cast mold in which coolant is applied to a castpart emerging from a mold, and which controls the flow of coolant back toward the mold inlet. More particularly, this invention relates to the creation of a forced or baffle fluid barrier, preferably gas, which prevents coolant from moving against the direction of movement of the emerging castpart and back toward the mold inlet.
