A polymer disposed liquid crystal display device (10) is provided comprising a copolymer (14) formed from monomers having significantly different reactivities. A reverse mode device is provided consisting of negative liquid crystal microdroplets (12) dispersed in a non-homogeneous polymer matrix consisting of a monomer having a high reactivity and a high surface free energy and another monomer having a low reactivity and has a low surface free energy. The surface active monomer is preferentially distributed at the surface of microdroplets formed by phase separation, causing homeotropic alignment of the liquid crystals.
Un dispositif d'affichage à cristaux liquides avec polymères (10) comprend un copolymère (14) formé de monomères ayant des réactivités très différentes. Un dispositif en mode inversé est inclus et consiste en de microgouttelettes de cristaux liquides négatives (12) dispersées dans une matrice de polymères non homogènes comprenant un monomère ayant une réactivité élevée et une énergie libre de surface élevée et un autre monomère ayant une réactivité faible et une énergie libre de surface faible.
