The present invention provides an adhesive filament-bearing adhesive tape comprising an adhesive substrate adapted to be releasably adhered to a surface to be coated and a filament releasably adhered to an edge of that substrate that is useful in trimming a coating applied to a surface. The invention further provides a method of trimming a coating applied to a surface comprising applying to the surface to be coated a masking material to define the area to be coated and a filament of material of sufficient tensile strength to cut the coating material; applying coating material to the surface; allowing the coating material to dry or cure until it obtains sufficient strength to hold a cut edge; and drawing the filament through the coating to cut the coating. Finally, the present invention provides an apparatus for making a filament-bearing adhesive tape comprising means for folding an adhesive substrate along a predefined line; means for applying a filament to the interior of the fold so formed; and means for closing said fold to retain said filament at the edge of the filament bearing tape.
La présente invention vise un ruban adhésif portant un filament, constitué d'un substrat auto-collant adapté pour être posé sur une surface à revêtir, dont un des bords est garni d'un filament auto-collant, utile pour effectuer le découpage lors de l'application d'un revêtement sur une surface. L'invention vise en outre une méthode pour effectuer le découpage lors de l'application d'un revêtement, qui consiste à appliquer sur la surface un matériau masquant de façon à délimiter la zone à revêtir, et un filament de matériau offrant une résistance à la rupture suffisante pour trancher le produit de revêtement; à appliquer le produit de revêtement sur la surface; à laisser le produit de revêtement sécher ou prendre jusqu'à ce qu'il soit assez résistant pour pouvoir être coupé en fil; et à tirer le filament à travers le revêtement, pour couper ce dernier. Finalement, la présente invention vise un appareil pour fabriquer un ruban adhésif portant un filament, ledit appareil comportant un moyen pour plier un substrat adhésif le long d'une ligne de pliure, un moyen pour appliquer un filament à l'intérieur du pli ainsi produit; et un moyen pour fermer ledit pli de façon à retenir le filament au bord du ruban à filament.
