ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mold for golf balls employs a plurality of cores formed in a body of metal to admit heat-exchange fluid adjacent a molding surface. The small thickness of metal between the cores and the molding surface accelerates heating and cooling of the molding surface, even thought the temperature of the body of the mold is not greatly changed during a molding cycle. In one embodiment, a carrier plate supports a plurality of columnar molds. One or more heat-exchange fluid flow channels carries heat-exchange fluid to the vicinity of the columnar molds. Inlet and outlet cores in the columnar molds permit the heat-exchange fluid to flow from, and return to, the fluid flow channels. In a further embodiment of the invention, heat-exchange fluid flows coaxially into, and out of, the cores to deliver the heat-exchange fluid almost directly to the ends of the cores where they are nearest the molding surface. An insulating tube may be used to reduce heat flow to the mold body.
