An elastically recoverable elastomeric splice cover (10) suitable for use covering a joint connector in a cable conductor, said splice cover comprising a central body having two distal opposing geometric cones capped by extended endseals, said body comprising three contiguous layers: (a) a semiconductive outer shield layer (11); (b) an inner toroidal electrode (13) disposed along a central axis having a length less than that of said toroidal body (14); (c) and interposed therebetween, an intermediate insulative layer (12) having a length equal to that of said body (14) and said geometric cones (15), and said outer shield layer (11) and said electrode (13) having been formed from a thermally conductive silicone elastomer, all of said layers having been formed from a silicone elastomer having a tear strength of at least 15 N/mm, and an elongation of at least 400 %, said insulative layer (12) further including from 10 % and 35 % of an electrically insulative filler, said layer having a minimum thermal conductivity of at least 0.18 W/mK, wherein after 30 alternating load current cycles said connector has maintained a temperature of 10 °C cooler than said cable conductor beyond said splice.

Cette enveloppe d'épissure (10) en élastomère, à recouvrance élastique, qui permet de recouvrir un connecteur dans un conducteur à câble, comprend un corps central à deux cônes distaux opposés fermés par des obturateurs allongés. Ce corps comprend trois couches superposées: (a) une couche extérieure semiconductrice (11) de blindage; (b) une électrode toroïdale interne (13) disposée au long d'un axe central et plus courte que le corps toroïdal (14) et (c), intercalée, une couche isolante intermédiaire (12), aussi longue que ce corps (14) et ses cônes (15). La couche extérieure de blindage (11) et l'électrode (13) sont réalisées à partir d'un élastomère de silicone thermiquement conducteur, et les trois couches sont réalisées à partir d'élastomères de silicone présentant une résistance à la déchirure d'au moins 15 N/mm, et une élongation d'au moins 400 %. La couche isolante comprend aussi 10 à 35 % d'une charge électriquement isolante et présente une conductivité thermique minimum de 0,18 W/mK. Après 30 cycles de courant de charge alternatif, ce connecteur et resté plus froid de 10 DEG C que e conducteur à câble disposé au-delà de cette épissure.
