An electric double layer capacitor excellent in safety which can be used as a power source for the starting of a cell-motor, for a hybrid car or for the back-up for a personal computer or the like, and a method for preparing the same. An electric double layer capacitor comprising a polarizable electrode and a polymeric gel electrolyte being present between poles, wherein the polymeric gel electrolyte is prepared by impregnating a fibrous sheet composed mainly of a fibrous or pulp material of an organic polymer which can dissolve in or be swollen with a non-aqueous electrolytic solution and can form a gel, with a non-aqueous electrolytic solution, and dissolving the material, followed by gelating it, and a method for preparing the same.
L'invention concerne un condensateur électrique double couche, possédant d'excellentes caractéristiques de sécurité, qui peut être utilisé comme source d'énergie pour le démarrage d'un moteur à piles, dans une voiture hybride ou pour les opérations de sauvegarde dans un ordinateur personnel ou similaire, ainsi qu'un procédé permettant de fabriquer ledit condensateur. Le condensateur comprend une électrode polarisable et un électrolyte constitué d'un gel de polymère, disposé entre les deux pôles. Pour préparer ledit électrolyte, on imprègne d'une solution électrolytique non aqueuse une feuille fibreuse, constituée principalement d'un polymère organique fibreux ou en suspension qui peut se dissoudre ou gonfler dans une solution électrolytique non aqueuse et former un gel ; on dissout le matériau polymère ; puis on le gélifie. L'invention concerne également un procédé permettant de préparer ledit condensateur.
