ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE There has been provided an electric furnace for heating thermoplastic material, including a chamber for containing the material having upstanding walls and electrode means located in said walls extending therethrough in a generally horizontal plane. The electrode means are disposed generally equidistant from each other in said upstanding wall and are divided into first and second sets. Each one of the first set is positioned between adjacent ones of said second set. A supply circuit means coupled to said electrode means provides intraphase cross-firing current paths and intraphase peripheral firing current paths between opposed ones of said first electrode set and between once removed ones of said electrodes in said second electrode set respectfully. Intraphase current paths are established between the first and second sets of electrodes not connected by said intraphase cross and peripheral firing current paths.
