ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An electrolysis cell for electrolytic processes that generate gas bubbles comprises at least one electrode with parallel electrode elements. The electrode elements are of a thickness that is up to three times the average bubble separation diameter and include a capillary gap that causes the gas bubbles to move through the electrode essentially in line with the direction of the electrical field between the reaction surfaces of the anode and the cathode.
