Fiber-optics having improved moisture resistance are provided in which the fiber-optics have a layer of hydrophobic polymeric resin on end surfaces thereof. The fiber-optics are preferably manufactured by applying a layer of hydrophobic, anhydride-curable epoxy resin onto end surfaces of the fiber-optic, and then heat curing the epoxy resin. Instruments which employ such fiber-optics are able to withstand a greater number of sterilization cycles.
