ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel 7-(3-alkanesulfonamidophenyl-0-glycinamido)-3- methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid and salts thereof of formula (I): Image (I) wherein R is an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms are provided and their process of preparation in the presence of a culture broth derived from a microorganism selected from the genus Pseudomans. Xanthomonas and Acetobacter, effective to N- acylate the 7-amino-3-methyl-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid or a salt thereof with 3-alkanesulfonamidophenylglycine the novel compounds are effective antimicrobial agents for oral application and are superior to the known cephalexin.
