A composite face seal having an annular seal rotor with a metal base portion and a radially extending flange. The flange having first and second axially facing surfaces. A first ceramic ring is mounted to the first surface of the flange by a first braze joint and a second ceramic ring is mounted to the second surface of the falnge by a second braze joint. The composite face seal assembly further includes an annular stator having an axially facing surface that seallingly engages an axially facing surface of one of the ceramic rings. Each of the braze joints may comprise a molybdenumg ring disposed between two braze rings or, for thicker seal assemblies, molybdenum and nickel rings disposed between braze rings.
L'invention concerne une garniture d'étanchéité composite constituée d'un rotor d'étanchéité annulaire à partie métallique de base et d'une bride s'étendant radialement. La bride comporte des première et seconde surface planes axiales. Un premier anneau en céramique est monté sur la première surface de la bride à l'aide d'un joint brasé et un second anneau de céramique est monté sur la seconde surface de la bride à l'aide d'un second joint brasé. L'assemblage de garniture étanche composite comprend aussi un stator annulaire possédant une surface plane axiale qui s'engage de façon étanche avec une surface plane axiale d'un des anneaux en céramique. Chaque joint brasé peut comporter un anneau de molybdène disposé entre deux anneaux brasés ou, pour des assemblages d'étanchéité plus épais, des anneaux de molybdène et de nickel disposés entre des anneaux brasés.
