The invention concerns reinforcing glass yarns whereof the composition includes the following constituents as defined below expressed in wt. %: 50 65 % SiO2; 12 20 % Al2O3; 12 17 % CaO; 6 12 % MgO; <= 2, preferably <= 3CaO/MgO; 0.1 0.8 %, preferably <= 0.6 Li2O; 03 % BaO+SrO; 0 3 % B2O3; 0 3 % TiO2; < 2 % Na2O+K2O; 0 1 % F2; < 1 % Fe2O3. Said yarns consist of a glass providing an excellent compromise between its mechanical properties represented by the specific Young modulus and melting and fiber drawing conditions.

L'invention se rapporte à des fils de verre de renforcement dont la composition comprend les constituants suivants dans les limites définies ci- après exprimées en pourcentages pondéraux : 50 - 65 % SiO2 Al2O3 12 - 20 % CaO 12 - 17 % MgO 6 - 12 % 2, de préférence 1,3 CaO/MgO 0,1 - 0,8 %, de préférence 0,6 % Li2O BaO+SrO 0-3% B2O3 0-3% TiO2 0-3% Na2O + K2O <2% 0-1% F2 Fe2O3 < 1%. Ces fils sont constitués d'un verre offrant un excellent compromis entre ses propriétés mécaniques représentées par le module d'Young spécifique et ses conditions de fusion et de fibrage.
