A firearms cabinet is installable in a stud wall, between adjacent studs. The cabinet includes a housing with a back wall narrower than the spacing between adjacent studs of the stud wall A peripheral wall extends around the back wall and projects from its front side. The peripheral wall has a width less than the thickness of the stud wall. A firearm mounting strip extends across the back wall of the housing for securing a firearm to the back wall with the stock of the firearm aligned to lie flush on the back wall of the housing. The firearm mounting strip may be a hook and loop fastener. The cabinet can be installed unobtrusively, for example in the back of a bedroom closet. It is fastened to the walls studs using fasteners extending laterally through the peripheral wall into the adjacent studs. These fasteners cannot readily be pulled out of the studs by pulling on the cabinet.
