The present invention provides tongs for use by fishermen for holding fish caught while fishing. The tongs comprise a pair of elongate tong members, a remotely releasable locking mechanism, and a weight. The tongs enable a fisherman to firmly hold the fish while removing a fish hook from the fish without causing further injury to the fish, and can be secured to the fish and lowered into deep water where the fish may then be released.
